Ukrainian Scouts from Plast brought the Bethlehem Flame of Peace to Euromaidan
On Saturday, December 21st, Ukrainian scouts (plastuny) brought the Bethelehem Flame of Peace to the Kyiv community and passed it over at the National Museum “Memorial to the Victims of Famines in Ukraine” on the Volodymyr Hill, as well as at the Euromaidan. This was the fifteenth time that the Bethlehem Flame was brought to Ukraine via the scout relay.
Plastuny officially passed the Bethlehem Flame of Peace over to the community of Kyiv on the Volodymyr Hill. After an ecumenical prayer was held by the clerical representatives of various denominations, the Flame was blessed to be spread further among the people. Then, the Flame was brought to the National Museum “Memorial to the Victims of Famines in Ukraine” and to the Euromaidan protesters in Kyiv.
"At this time, when there is much that can divide us, we are giving to the Ukrainian community this symbol of unity for the good of the entire humanity. Let this Flame light up the Christmas dinner tables throughout Ukraine and bring us peace, harmony and mutual understanding,” - said Yaroslav Yurchyshyn, the Head of the Ukrainian Plast. During the ceremony, young plastuny spread the Flame by lighting the candles for people at Euromaidan.
“Those that weren’t able to receive the Flame today, can later light their candles at the prayer tents, at the Maltese Service tent or at the information center ‘NE ZLYi Maidan’,” – informed Andriy Luzan, the Head of the Kyiv chapter of Plast.
Subsequently, during the week of December 22-30th, plastuny will spread the Flame to the numerous churches, hospitals and orphanages of the Ukrainian capital.
